Hi Didier,

VitaDesktop is actually just a customized "thin web browser," so there's no need to use an API -- I just access the website as a cellphone or web browser would. :)

Of course, the features can be expanded if I use the API.

The main benefit of VitaDesktop over using Internet Explorer or Firefox is that it uses much less memory, and also offers quick access to Vitalist via the Windows System tray.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Cheers,
Michael

Hi Michael,

may I ask you how do you retreive information from vitalist. Do you use the atom service ? And the quick add API ?

Hi Dale,

Thanks for the great suggestion! I'll look into this and hopefully add it within the next few updates. The only thing is that I'm not sure if it's possible to maneuver through the main Vitalist web-app (my.vitalist.com) in a way that would allow VitaDesktop to access individual pages -- at least not in Full-View mode. It looks like it would work in Compact mode though.

In any case, showing/hiding VitaDesktop using the keyboard shouldn't be a problem. :)

Thanks again,
Michael

VitaDesktop - what a great idea! One feature request - I'm a keyboard person and would like to use a keyboard combination to activate VitaDesktop. Even better would be keyboard combos to get me to the Inbox, Actions List, etc

Thanks!

Tring to use the "Full" Actions list as that's what I use on the website and find that it shows me the stuff I like (when grouped by date). But VitaDesktop seems to have some issues with minimizing and restoring. If I uncheck the "hide on minimize" (default is on), it keeps restoring the display to full screen. Dont want that. Just want it to say the size I made it in the location I left it. eg: dont muck with it.

If left on, it does stranger things like restoring to full screen at strange times, flashing the screen as it comes to the forground and stuff.

Concept is GREAT and with a bit of polishing youre going to have a real winner! Love vitalist and vitadesktop is probably going to turn into a Must Have.

Michael, I misunderstood the comment then. Yes, Firefox stores up to 8 pages from your back and forward history for each tab in memory. As you surf more pages and use more tabs, that memory grows, to a point.

Hi Asa,

Thanks for the response.

The thing is, even if you're not using extensions in Firefox, you'll notice that even though you may _start_ at around 25 MB at launch, your memory usage will increase as you visit more pages.

You can test it if you'd like:

1) Open Firefox and make note of the starting amount of RAM (via the Task Manager)
2) Browse actively for 15-30 minutes
3) Check the Task Manager again and see the updated RAM usage for Firefox.

The RAM usage will continue to increase as long as you're browsing; and it's the same for Internet Explorer.

This was a big issue for me, since I tend to leave my browser window open for long periods of time; which is why I took the additional time to ensure that memory usage is at a minimum for VitaDesktop.

If your Firefox is using more than about 25MB of RAM on launch, you've probably got a problem extension. Try disabling your extensions and restarting and then selectively re-enable them to determine which one is the culprit.
